In late 2024, I submitted Kurawaka. the journey home to Pūhia III. It was my first submission, so when it was accepted and then released in early 2025, I celebrated this as a milestone.
Pūhia is an independent journal of Māori creative writing and visual art created and edited by Jordan Tricklebank (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Mahuta), the curator behind the Māori Literature Blog. Pūhia III brings together poetry, prose (narrative or reflective writing), and artwork from emerging and established Māori creators — a space where our stories are held with care.
My piece — part poem, part reflection — speaks to a deeply personal experience of miscarriage.
